US 62 Realignment, Stark County, Ohio

OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

The Ohio Department of Transportation rebuilt a 5-lane arterial section of US 62 between SR 43 and Maple Avenue as a four-lane divided highway. This existing 0.70-mile section is highly urbanized and contained 43 residential and 33 commercial driveways prior to the project.

Building upon ODOT’s existing Feasibility Study, L&A prepared the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the project. As part of this effort, L&A prepared Phase I History/Architecture Survey, Level 1 Ecological Survey Report, Waterway Permits, Noise Analysis, Qualitative Mobile Source Air Toxics Analysis, Social & Economic Resource Analysis and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment. L&A staff also updated the Purpose & Need statement and facilitated the public hearing. This was the first EA prepared by a consultant after ODOT took over NEPA approvals from the Federal Highway Administration. Working together, L&A and ODOT achieved a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) within 18 months of authorization to proceed.
