I-76/I-77 Akron Central Interchange

OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

The Akron Central Interchange, where I-76 connects to I-77, required modification to remove left-side ramps in both directions on I-76. The interchange modification also addressed substandard ramp geometry and poor bridge conditions in the interchange area.

L&A was part of a multi-consultant team for this major infrastructure project, providing environmental expertise. L&A prepared the D1 Categorical Exclusion (CE) document for ODOT approval. The complex CE summarized results across a range of disciplines. A key component was Underserved Populations. L&A used targeted techniques to reach Underserved Populations and to obtain feedback on the proposed noise walls. L&A canvassed impacted neighborhoods door-to-door, interviewing residents and provided project information on doorknob hangers.
