State Route 257 Retaining Wall

OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, DISTRICT 6

To repair a rock face failure along SR-257, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), District 6 contracted L&A to perform a mussel survey and relocation in the Scioto River, which is listed as a Group 1 stream for Delaware County in the Ohio Mussel Survey Protocol (2015). The mussel survey and relocation were required to be completed before the construction of the approximately 400 foot retaining wall commenced. L&A’s malacologists surveyed a 2,082 square meter study area according to the aforementioned protocol using view buckets and snorkeling techniques. The study determined this section of the river contained minimal suitable habitat for mussels and no mussels required relocation.
