Lawhon & Associates,
Inc. performed environmental sampling and clean up activities at a tire
services facility located in Ohio after a tire
fire incident. The clean up activity consisted of the removal and disposal
of tire fire residue (ash) discharged from the facility during fire control
activities that occurred. The impacted fire control water was released
into two different river bodies. These activities were in accordance
with all local, state and federal regulations and client requests. Clean
up activities were also performed at Big Run and Marsh Run downstream
from the facility. Tire fire residue (ash) from the fire fighting activities
was contained and collected from the Big Run surface waters. The ash
was contained by floating containment booms collected using gas and electric
powered blowers. These were removed from the surface using shovels, skimmers
and seines. The collected ash was bagged and held pending the solid waste
analytical results at which time the ash was disposed of properly per
the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
