ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST - Air Quality

Lawhon & Associates, Inc. (L&A) is seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual for an entry-level or mid-level position within our air quality department.  Our practice is a unique and dynamic business that is focused on managing, investigating and resolving environmental concerns in the indoor and outdoor environment.  This is a full-time position based in our Columbus, Ohio office.

As a member of L&A's multidisciplined team, you will be working directly with our recognized senior professionals and executive managers.  The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of projects including but not limited to: indoor air quality assessments, odor and human health investigations, exposure evaluations, microbial contamination surveys, environmental infection monitoring, Legionella water sampling and risk assessments, hazardous material management, LEED EQc3.2 IAQ sampling and ambient air quality testing and modeling.

Projects may involve overnight travel to job sites throughout Ohio and surrounding states.

Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a science or engineering-related field.  Applicants completing their degree will be considered.
  •  Knowledge of indoor environmental issues desired but not required.

ECOLOGICAL SCIENTIST - MID-LEVEL

Lawhon & Associates, Inc. (L&A) based in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a self-motivated individual to work in our Columbus office for our growing ecological practice.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in ecological consulting including wetland delineation surveys, stream assessments, and threatened and endangered species habitat surveys, with a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, natural resources or a related field OR 2 years of experience with a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Candidate must meet the minimum educational standard to obtain the ODOT Prequalification for Ecological Surveys and/or Waterway Permits.
  • Experience conducting wetland delineations and stream assessments.
  • Demonstrated Section 404/401 permitting experience.
  • Detailed working knowledge of NEPA and the related laws and authorities.
  • Proficiency with GPS data collection.
  • Excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple, demanding tasks under critical timeframes.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and motivated by the opportunity to help expand Lawhon’s ecological practice and work in an energetic and collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with a commitment to accuracy, detail, and timeliness.
  • Availability for periodic overnight travel to job sites within Ohio.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Candidates who already have ODOT Prequalification for Ecological Surveys, Waterway Permits, or Wetland Mitigation Design are a plus.
  • Certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) by the Society of Wetland Scientists or the experience to become certified is preferred.
  • Proficiency in plant identification.
  • Experience with transportation projects is desirable.
  • Macroinvertebrate and/or endangered species survey experience is desirable.
  • Experience with a variety of infrastructure and development project types (e.g., transportation, energy, land management) with private and public sector clients is a plus.
  • Excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple, demanding tasks under critical timeframes.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and motivated by the opportunity to help expand Lawhon’s ecological practice and work in an energetic and collaborative environment.
  • Sound understanding of wetland and stream ecology.
  • Sound understanding of Federal and State environmental laws and regulations.
